Prospective Honours Students
Who is eligible? | EES Honours Projects | Honours Scholarships | Honours Expression of Interest
An Honours degree in Earth & Environmental Sciences (EES) at the University of Adelaide is the gateway to increased job opportunities and to a wide range of rewarding careers in research.
Honours is an additional year of full-time study at the end of your undergraduate degree: it is a prerequisite and stepping stone to a research higher degree, and an opportunity to specialise and increase your competitiveness if you are seeking a job. Regardless of your career aspirations, Honours is an opportunity for personal and professional development: it will develop your abilities in clear-thinking, criticism and communication, and test your imagination, self reliance and self-discipline.
The Honours year consists of a major research project, together with courses, field work, written essays and papers. The research project is supervised by academic staff and research affiliates of Earth & Environmental Sciences who are international leaders in their fields of science. As an Honours student, you will be a member of a research team working at the leading edges of environmental and earth sciences. You will use state of the art facilities and train with world class researchers in a contemporary learning environment.
Who is eligible?
Students who have completed an undergraduate degree with high achievement in level 3 courses are eligible to apply for admission to this program. Applications are also welcomed from graduates in relevant disciplines from other Universities.
Honours studies may commenced in February (Semester 1) or in July (Semester 2), except for Geology & Geophysics which only has Semester 1 intake. However, planning for Honours should commence in the preceding year: applicants are encouraged to discuss potential projects with supervisors and Honours Coordinators (listed below) as early as possible.
Lists of potential projects and supervisors are available in Semester 2 each year.
